On Sunday we held our semiannual Scholastics Dinner where we celebrate the academic achievements of the past semester, honor our academic advisors and honorary members, and acknowledge this year’s scholarship recipient.
An alumni, Mary Buschette, spoke to the chapter about Growth, Graciousness, Gratitude, and Passions. She also gave our actives a history lesson on the accomplishments of Norman Borlaug. We were very lucky and honored that she was able to pass along her wisdom.
Academics are an integral part of our sisterhood, so we always love honoring our members for a job well done. We appreciate everyone who came to help us celebrate our achievements.
We are so proud of our New Member Abby Rohweder who ran in the Twin Cities Medtronic Marathon this past weekend. She finished the race in 5 hours, 22 minutes, and 8 seconds. She ran an average mile of 12 minutes and 18 seconds. LDPhi is so lucky to have such an amazing New Member. We can’t wait to see what she does in the future.
This past week our active members have had a blast getting to know the members of Theta Chi, Phi Mu, and Delta Kappa Epsilon in our pairing, “Fratatouille.” We participated in a variety of events to celebrate Greek Life and Gopher Pride.
On Monday and Tuesday, the pairing met at DKE to create our pomping masterpiece of Goldy in a Chef hat as our tribute to the pairing name and gopher spirit.
On Wednesday Lambda Delta Phi raised $705 for the 2018 Gopher Plunge to benefit Special Olympics. Active members Mariella, Amanda T, Kari, Taylor, and Hannah all braved the cold along with other members from the “Fratatouille” team. The entire event raised $12,951.
The main events concluded on Thursday with LipSync. Active members Sami and Megan represented LDPhi on the stage. We are so proud of all the hard work they’ve put into preparing their routine.
The final event will be on Saturday with us cheering on Gopher Football game against Iowa. We are so honored to be a part of this university and represent Gopher spirit. 2018 Homecoming was a great time and we can’t wait for Homecoming 2019!
Maureen joined to become a part of something bigger than herself, to gain leadership skills, and, of course, to meet the wonderful ladies of LDP. She is the assistant 2nd VP for the chapter. Maureen works at a before and after school program at an elementary school and volunteers in an elementary school weekly.
Major: Animal Science and Agricultural Communications and Marketing
Kyra joined to become involved on campus and in her first year as a member, she has become very active. She is the social chair, the graphic design chair, and the assistant PHC representative. On campus, Kyra is involved in the Gopher Dairy Club, and Block and Bridle. She has spent her summers working at New Perspective Senior Living and traveling to various jackpot shows with her market lambs.
Kari joined because of the family atmosphere between the girls. In December of 2017, she joined the U.S. Navy. Kari spent the past semester at basic training. On campus, she is a member of the Gopher Dairy Club and did research in Dr. Crooker’s animal physiology lab.
Kirsten joined LDPhi the second semester of her first year on campus. She wanted to find a home away from home and a place that would push her academically. This past summer she interned in Nebraska with the Omaha Equestrian Foundation. On campus, she is the president of the Barnyard, the gopher men’s basketball fan section.
